Structure of the building

Before starting:

Before starting to work you have to create the file. You will open an architectural template on the start page. Before making any line or element in the template it is important to check the units. In my case I am working in meters.

Axis grid

The grids are going to be the guidelines for creating the structure. In the floor plan, you have the grids two ways (vertical and horizontal). It is natural to put the grids going through the structural elements. If you for example, have a structural wall that is split or has different thicknesses you are going to consider the wall of the most length as where to put the axis.
In our case it is going to be seven vertical axis and three horizontal axis. Make sure to put the axes aligned to make them easier to work with.

The naming system of the grids is important. Horizontally you are going to name with number starting from 1 (1,2,3…). And vertically you are going to name with letters starting from A (A,B,C…).

Axis are also going to be put in the elevation, and the naming needs to describe what part of the building you are in (1. ground floor, 2. First floor, 3. Roof)

Naming

To keep an order you need to create your own default naming system for the different elements. The name is going to tell you what element it is and include details as thickness and material. As we are not working with materials yet I am not going to specify this in the exercise.

Eks “Basic wall 0.15m”

Note that since I am working in meters I will also use this unit to describe the naming system.

Structural walls

The command for structural walls is in the toolbar under architecture> wall architectural. We are going to work with architectural walls.

When you place the walls you use the grids as a reference. We already knew the thicknesses of the walls from doing the dimensions from the last exercise.

Floors

Ground floor

You can choose the ground floor command by entering the tool bar architecture>floor. There are several methods to select the limit of the floors, but in this case I chose the rectangle tool and created the limit.

First floor

You can choose the ground floor command by entering the tool bar architecture>floor. The difference between the first floor and the ground floor in our case is that on the first floor we have openings. The openings we need to make is the patio, the elevators and the opening for the stairs. The shape of the first floor is a bit different because of the terrace cantilever. In this case I used the line tool to create the shape.

Roof

You can choose the ground floor command by entering the tool bar architecture>roof. The shape of the roof is the same as the first floor. On the roof you need to make sure there is no slope added.

Stairs

To make the stairs you go into the stair command in the toolbar. Place it and indicate that it will go from the ground floor to the first floor. If the height does not match with the rises of the stairs you can edit them in properties. Make sure to make an opening for the stair so that a person will fit under. The minimum height between a stair step and the ceiling should be around 2.10 meters.
