How to make a presentation in Revit

  • Create a Title block 
  • Insert views into sheets 
  • Place a camera 
  • Render

TITLEBLOCK

In this post I will explain how to make a presentation in Revit. This includes how to make a presentation sheet and to do renders.

First step is to create the sheet. You go to view>sheet. You can choose to work with a sheet Revit already had created or make a new one.

Create a new family to insert the information you want to show in the presentation for this project. You can insert the text labels and pictures needed.

T
o create a new text label you click on text label as shown in figure 4. You will get a scheme like shown in figure 5. Revit has already made some information standards that you can put in such as project name or page number.

 INSERT VIEW INTO SHEET

To insert a view into a sheet you can simply drag and drop it. The tricky thing with Revit is that you may not insert one view twice, but you can simply duplicate the view and past it. This is relevant if you are going to create a sheet with a detail zoom in.

Hide the elements that you do not want to be shown in the presentation as shown in figure 7.

The tool bar in the lower left corner:

-To finish the viewport you can scale it. The scale is the most left icon.
-You can crop the view with keeping the icon on. You can edit the crop region by clicking on it, but make sure the crop region icon is turned on to edit it.
-You can also add effects such as shadows as I did in figure 8.

PLACE A CAMERA

In view you click on the 3D view icon and then place camera. Place the camera from where you want the render to be taken.

Figure 9
To make a good render you need to think about how your building is placed in the cameras view. The 3D wheel is helpful for this. I always make sure to fulfill these checkpoints:
- The vertical lines must be straight and parallel to each other.
- The height of the camera should be from a persons view, around 1.8 m from the ground.
- The building must be centered in the view.

RENDER

You can make a render when you are inside the camera you created. Click on render inside view. Turn on shadows and sun path in the toolbar in the left lower corner. In the sun path icon you can choose the location, in this case it is Barcelona. You can also choose the time (figure 12).

In figure 11 you can see how you can edit the quality of the render such as the exposure and the saturation.

 Click render...

This is the final render of the building.

You can choose different qualities to make your render in. In my case I did a draft which is the quickest one, but as you notice with less picture quality.
If you are making a high quality render you can render it in the cloud and you will get the final render emailed to you.
